Scripture for today:  Jeremiah 48; Jeremiah 49; Psalm 67; 1 John 1

Scripture-My special verse today:  1 John:8  If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives.

Observation:  To claim to be without sin is to call God a liar.  We are all sinners in need of a Savior.  The truth is Christ and he must forgive us and purify us in order to claim righteousness.  To claim to be without sin would mean we are in no need of Christ.  The scripture clearly states that we do need Christ.

Application:  Going it alone, having everything we need within us – those are the terms we hear so much of today.  The popular books are full of do it yourself teaching but God’s Word directly opposes the idea that we can truly do it all alone.  Rather, we are in need of a Savior but we must admit our sinfulness.

When I come against sin, I often fall into the mindset that I am in control.  Something must be out of whack in my life.  Rather, I need to call it by its name – SIN!!    Only when I call it sin will I turn to Christ for deliverance.  How many times have I called God a liar because I refused to admit my sin?  Ouch!

Prayer:  Lord, let me recognize my sin and turn to you for deliverance.  Let me know that you are faithful to forgive my sin and restore me to faithfulness.
