Scripture for today:  Isaiah 29; Isaiah 30; Isaiah 31; James 1

Scripture-My special verse today:  Isaiah 30:10

They say to the seers,  ”See no more visions!” and to the prophets,

 ”Give us no more visions of what is right! Tell us pleasant things, prophesy illusions.

Observation:  The people are tired of hearing the truth.  They want to continue to live their own way which is obviously in direct contradiction to God’s way.  Instead of seeing the need to change and follow the ways of God, they cry out to change the message.  They want Isaiah to stop with the warnings and just tell them what they want to hear.  They don’t want to change, they want to change the message.  They ask the prophets to not tell the truth, but rather, to tell them fairy tales of pleasant things that are going to happen.

Application:  Do I really want to hear the truth?  Does anyone?  As I go about my daily life, I think I am making the best choices.  I am positive I am in God’s will and he is going to be so pleased with me.  However, I often get the feeling God isn’t as happy with me as I think he is.  When I get a warning that my decisions, my tone of voice, my though process is not in compliance with God’s plan, do I willingly change or try to change the message?  The world today covets busyness and stuff, never something God chose for us.  However, when we are told by God to slow down we feel it must have been a miscommunication.  I mean, what if we don’t get it all done.  Surely we heard the message wrong.

However, the message is clear and I need to make sure I recognize the correct voice.  Many wish to make up new messages that fall in line with how we are living.  I need to listen for God’s voice and hear the true message, painful or not.

 Prayer:  Lord, above all the noise and busyness, let me hear your voice and your message.  Let me not fall prey to the world’s made-up message but let the message truly be from your lips.  I hope I will always be willing to change in order to align myself with your direction.

Today’s Scripture Readings:

Isaiah 19; Isaiah 20; Isaiah 21; Hebrews 11

Scripture-My special verse today:

Isaiah 21:4 My heart falters, fear makes me tremble;
       the twilight I longed for has become a horror to me.

Observation:  After being separated from God, Isaiah’s heart is touched as he sees the fulfillment of God’s promises coming true because the people have remained cold hearted.  He truly fears the Lord, and because of that, he sees the writing on the wall.  Since God truly fulfills his promises, the people will not prosper if they decide to turn their backs on him.

As he looks forward to his later years he feels horrified.  Why?  It seems that the very thing he was looking forward to is causing him misery and even horror.

Application:  Do I put things before God or God before things?  I often find that the things I wanted turn out to offer no special significance.  Unfortunately, they turn out to just be “things.”  I try to replace my need for God with material things, but I know that will never work.  Why as a good American do I continue to try when I know it will not work?

Only God can fulfill the things and feelings he was meant to fill.  Like trying to take a bath with sand, trying to get “things” to fill the places of God brings about horror.  It just doesn’t work.

Prayer:  Lord, Let me rely on you and see things as consumable.  You are infinite and everlasting.  Help me see the difference and choose wisely.
