Scripture for today: Zechariah 10; Zechariah 11; Zechariah 12; Psalm 126; Luke 14 (New International Version)
Scripture-My special verse today: Zechariah 10:2 The idols speak deceit,
diviners see visions that lie;
they tell dreams that are false,
they give comfort in vain.
Therefore the people wander like sheep
oppressed for lack of a shepherd.
Observation: The prophet is hearing a warning of how the people will be led astray by deceitful talk and dreams. The people of God will become so confused that they will not seek God but will hear all the other things from those trying to lead them astray. They will no longer know who to follow. Confusion will set in and they will be in danger because they have noone to follow.
Application: It is always amazing how relevant the bible is to my world today. Idols and diviners speaking and seeing things that are in contradiction to God’s promises, those are the things that make the media run. Not that all are out of the will of God, but enough are to lead the people astray. Many people can tell you quickly what Oprah says but are speechless when asked what God says. Though the bible has been around for years, few take it as reality but as suggestions.
Without a shepherd the people don’t really know where to go and when to go there. They wander around and are in danger of following anyone they even resembles a leader. We see it all the time. People are nervous because they are no longer following the Good Shepherd and are lost without a true leader. The problem with many is that they don’t know the Good Shepherd even when he does something big in their life. Rather, they believe it is because they are such a smart sheep that it happened. Gotta wonder why God even bothers.
Prayer: Let me follow the Shepherd and take others with me.
