Scripture for today: Nahum 1; Nahum 2; Nahum 3; John 5
Scripture-My special verse today:Nahum 1:7 The LORD is good,
a refuge in times of trouble.
He cares for those who trust in him,
Observation: Whenever one is in trouble it is helpful to know that God is a place of shelter. He is able to protect those that need him when they are facing times of strife. He promised to be that refuge in the times of trouble. However, the verse indicates that he truly cares for those who trust in him.
Application: Do I believe that I can turn to God when I am in trouble? Do I seek him first or last? Why is it that I often turn to him as a last resort instead of a promised first step?
If I could change anything regarding my relationship with God, I would see him as a coach instead of a lifeguard. I would realize he is encouraging me to push further, try harder, keep going one more time and allow me to grow closer to him as he pushes me to do things he knows I am capable of doing. Instead, I often see him as a lifeguard that keeps me from drowning. As long as my head is above water, I am doing fine. However, the minute I feel threatened I start looking for him to save me.
Sad, but I need to see him as a coach. I need to look for him as he challenges me to walk the Christian walk, not save me from drowning.
Prayer: Lord, let me see you as my coach today and each day. Let me see that you are encouraging me to try harder to live the life you have chosen. Let me not just rely on you in times of trouble, but realize that you truly care for me because of my trust in you.
