Scripture for today: Haggai 1; Haggai 2; Psalm 129; Luke 10 (The Message)
Scripture-My special verse today: Luke 10:38-40As they continued their travel, Jesus entered a village. A woman by the name of Martha welcomed him and made him feel quite at home. She had a sister, Mary, who sat before the Master, hanging on every word he said. But Martha was pulled away by all she had to do in the kitchen. Later, she stepped in, interrupting them. “Master, don’t you care that my sister has abandoned the kitchen to me? Tell her to lend me a hand.”
41-42The Master said, “Martha, dear Martha, you’re fussing far too much and getting yourself worked up over nothing. One thing only is essential, and Mary has chosen it—it’s the main course, and won’t be taken from her.”
Observation: Jesus comes to their house and all they can do is fuss over who has done the most. He is coming to share with them but they are unable to hear him because of their preoccupation with who is being more holy and who is doing the right thing. Jesus corrects Martha and tells her Mary has chosen correctly.
Application: I did not want to choose this verse. I mean, as a Mom, this is a ringer. One I have heard and even read books about. However, I am no closer to being a Mary in a Martha world than I was before. Well, maybe that isn’t entirely true because SOAP has allowed me to draw away and sit at Jesus’s feet. Sometimes I have to declare, “SILENT” in a very unpleasant way to get some peace but, there I am, sitting at his feet. Hopefully there will be a better way but I guess one has to take what they get.
My main objective is to love the Lord so much that I yearn to sit at his feet each and every day. I hope to bring my children along with me, even if they don’t know why they are coming yet. To love the Lord with my whole heart, soul, mind and strength means I desire to sit in his presence. But, oh those pesky dishes in the sink, meal to cook, floor to clean….
Prayer: Lord, help me find the balance sooner rather than later.
